Snow
We woke up last week to scenery in Houston that we have not seen for many years… a snow-covered landscape that God adorned us with. Yes it caused some inconvenience, a hiccup in routine, and restricted plans that might have been made… but the weathermen were pretty accurate as to their warnings, so we were prepared.
To me, God offered us once again a peek into his magnificent power… he made it snow in the south for many who have never been exposed to snow; to see and feel the magic of flurries and the peaceful sight of a white and beautiful landscape as far as you could see.
This is our God who sends surprises in forms we sometimes cannot imagine; at times we don’t expect and with results that are seldom intended. Weeks before this snow, we would have never expected it. And God’s timing was just after a new year had begun… and he brought about an excitement and enchantment that we could have never expected. We go about our days and make our plans but, though we had a peek into this particular one, often times his surprises are right before us but unless we are looking for them, the treasures remain hidden, and his surprises and his very presence go unnoticed.
God’s treasures are also his blessings and his mercies. This snow was beautiful and there was peaceful countenance about it. But we were covered and sheltered and warm. There are others, I know, who must who struggled through this weather. And I pray that God blessed them with a place of safety and comfort as well. We have all experienced cold… not just from the weather outside but from a chill that has lingered within us. A chill of not having answers, or being confronted with daily demands that seem overwhelming. or situations that are not easy to navigate or just getting through a daily grind that seemingly will never end. Those and many other obstacles can keep us in the cold; restless and striving for a warm welcome of advice or love or just someone to come warm our soul by being there.
And if you find yourself or know of others who need a warm blanket of love to envelop them…Remind them of that God is always a friend when in need and a friend indeed. They will not find him to be a physical presence but he is mighty in power and presence if you call his name and ask for his help and encouragement, he will hear your plea and answer you in his whispered way. His spirit will warm your heart if you seek him, and his way will find a way to your heart through someone who may call , a song you may hear, a place you may go or a sight you may see. For his blessings abound and a simple prayer to seek his will, help, wisdom and his guide will gently warm your heart and give you a peace that can be settle the chill that is within you.
Just as the snow melts and the ground and the landscape return to a familiar sight.. so shall God melt the anxiousness of a flurried heart, and peace will once again find its place to light within you. Be blessed with God’s treasures of love and mercy and keep a lookout for treasures that on your path… they are there just sometimes need a little searching.
On a lighter note: I grew up with a saying from my mom that said: whether it’s cold or whether it’s hot, we will have weather whether or not.It is a constant family phrase that is often cited especially in weather that is not expected. This past week was one of them. We will good times and bad times but what we must always remember is God is always on time.
Praise God wherever you are and whatever situation He has allowed you to be in . . . His glory will shine through!
